Location

Bhubaneswar is situated between 210 15' North (Latitude) and 850 15' (Longitude) at an altitude of 45 metres above the sea level. Geographically, it is situated in the eastern coastal plains of Orissa snd south-west of the river, Mahanadi. Bhubaneswar is subdivided into a number of townships and housings. National Highway-5 which once bordered the city now runs right through it. It is one of the 100 largest cities on Earth.

Road

Both deluxe and regular buses ply to Berhampur (174 km), Chiika (110 km), Cuttack (24 km), Konark (60 km), Puri (60 km), Paradip, Rourkela, Sambalpur and other places. Interstate bus services operate daily between Kolkata and Puri via Bhubaneswar and Tatanagar (Jamshedpur). Bus Stand: 5 km from the city centre.

National Highway No. 5 passes through Bhubaneshwar city, which connects Kolkata with Chennai. Besides interstate bus services operate daily to Kolkata, Tatanagar and Visakhapatnam.

Bhubaneshwar is well connected by motorable roads through out the year. The national highway no.5 touches this capital city. The main bus stand is at Barmunda, 8 km from the city centre. There are regular interstate bus services from the nearby towns and cities. Taxis, auto-rickshaws, cycle-rickshaws and local bus services are available. The old bus stand in Unit II (off Rajpath) is mainly used for local services.

Railway Stations

Bhubaneswar Railway Station is one of the main stations in Orissa. It is a railhead under the administrative control of South Eastern Railways and is located in the city center. It is connected to the rest of the country by express and passenger trains. Falaknuma Express, Howrah Puri Passenger, Visakha Express, East Coast Express, Guwahati Express, Coromandal Express, Howrah Mail and Utkal Express pass through the station. Computerized Passenger Reservation System service can be availed.

Situated at a distance of 5km from the city, Bhubaneshwar Airport is connected to the cities of Kolkkata, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Vishakhapatnam Raipur.
