Late November to March is the best time to hit Chennai; it is unbearably hot and sweaty the rest of the year. The summer temperatures between April and early June soar to over 40 C. The rain gods descend from September to early November, exposing the city's drainage. But whatever the season, arm yourself with plenty of tissues and deodorants and carry an umbrella.Chennai (formerly Madras) has the Bay of Bengal bordering its east, while the state of Andhra Pradesh is on its northwest. It has the famous district of Tamilnadu, Kanchipuram, on its south and the states of Kerala and Karnataka on its western side. Being situated at the tropical zone, Chennai-Madras normally has a very hot and humid climate. The best time to visit this city is the winter season.

    The best time to visit Chennai is between October to March when the weather improves. The rest of the year is hot and humid, unsuitable for outdoor travel.

    Chennai experiences uniform weather between November to February although it continues to be hot and humid. Temperatures soar in May and range from 33 degrees to 42 degrees Celsius, sometimes even touching 45 degrees Celsius for a few days. December and January are the coolest months with a mean temperature of 24 degrees Celsius. Monsoons in Chennai last from late September to mid November, the average rainfall being as high as 1300 mm. The city also experiences cyclones that are brought in by the north-east monsoon winds from the Bay of Bengal.

    Climate

    The climate is hot and humid for most of the year. The sea breeze moderates the humidity. The temperature in summer can go up to 420 C. It rains quite heavily during the monsoon but the climate in winter is pleasant and suited for travelling.
