The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi, India, was built by the Government of India in 1982. The massive facility is an all-purpose sports arena hosting football (soccer) and other sporting events, as well as large-scale entertainment events, such as concerts by India’s leading musical acts and entertainers. The facility seats 78,000 spectators,[1] and up to 130,000 for concerts. In terms of sitting capacity, it is the third biggest stadium in India and the 57th largest in the world. The stadium also houses the headquarters of the Indian Olympic Association.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was first constructed to host the 9th Asian Games in 1982 (India had also hosted the first Games in 1951, also in New Delhi). The stadium will also host the upcoming 2010 Commonwealth Games. In preparation for the Games, the stadium is undergoing a refurbishment that will reduce the capacity to 75,000 spectators [2]. It will be completed in early 2010.
