One of the most historic innings was played on this ground in 1999-'00 when Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid scored the record partnership of 331 runs against New Zealand.

Formerly Fateh Maidan, the Lal Bahadur Shastri stadium has a capacity of 25,000 spectators and is equipped with floodlights around the field and provision of internal lights for the spectators. The Stadium is run by the Sports Authority of Andhra Predesh, SAAP, was till recently the main cricket stadium for holding International cricket matches in the city.
