Jaipur is popularly known as the 'Pink City'. It is also the capital of the state of Rajasthan. Jaipur is one of the most visited tourist place of India. The old city of Jaipur is partially encircled with seven gates-the major gates are Chandpol, Sanganeri, and Ajmeri. The bustling bazaars of jaipur, famous for Rajasthani jewellery, fabric and shoes, possess a timeless quality and are surely a treasure trove for the shoppers. Jaipur is situated in the eastern part of Rajasthan. It is bound in the north by Sikar and Alwar, in South by Tonk, Ajmer and Sawai Madhopur. Nagaur, Sikar and Ajmer in the west and in east by Bharatpur and Dausa districts. It is about 261 Km away from New Delhi. Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan. Most of the state government offices are located in Jaipur.
Most of the buildings in the old city are made of pink sandstone. That is why Jaipur is popularly known as the Pink City. Most of the important industries of Jaipur are based on handicrafts such as jewellery, enamel, metal work, tie and dye, marble and ivory work. Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Ram Bagh Palace and the Jantar Mantar observatory are places of tourist interest in Jaipur. The Jaipur observatory is the largest in India. The main festivals celebrated in the city are Teej, Gangaur and the Elephant's Festival.
