Built in 1875 Bombay Gymkhana Ground did not open its gates to the Indians till 1933, when India played its firs test match. The architecture of Bombay Gymkhana Ground especially of the pavilions, speaks loudly of its colonial past.

In Bombay Gymkhana Ground, cricket is played in the winter months, while football and rugby fill up the rest of the calendar year. Other than the aforementioned sports, Bombay Gymkhana Ground provides facilities for range of other sports like- swimming, table-tennis and badminton. Bombay Gymkhana Ground has even hosted international squash tournaments.

The capacity of Bombay Gymkhana Ground is 15,000 but there have been times when the size of spectators has swollen up to 50,000.

Bombay Gymkhana Ground was created as an elusive reserve for the Europeans, a sort of a sacred space that they guarded so zealously against desecration by Indians. Now Bombay Gymkhana Ground remains one of the most sought after clubs of the rich, with membership costing almost a million rupees every year.
